My Side of the Bed

So remember the other day when I slept for 2 hours then woke up at 5:30am to go to the gym? I full on expected to fall asleep 12 hours later but guess what? I wasn't even tired till after midnight and went to bed at 12:44am. Who'd have thought that I could be more productive on 2 hours sleep and a workout, than on a day when I get 7-8 hours and no exercise? Have I been doing it wrong all these years??? Oh well, at least now I know....
...I'm a robot.
Or a cylon. {Yes, I speak geek}
Not sure which yet.

Thankfully, I think these last few days seem to have fixed my insomia. Last night I went to bed just after 11pm then woke up before 7am. I'll do the 5:30am days whenever my friend H wants to go to the gym, otherwise I'm sleeping in till 7.

Since I'm on the topic of sleep, I thought I should mention how much I love my bed. It's a king and though we've only had it for about 2 years, I'm not sure I could ever do without it again. You see the king bed allows me to run away from S in my sleep. He's the touchy feely let's snuggle type and well, I'm more of a man the I need my space, don't breathe in my face type. Because why on earth would I want to breathe your recycled air?

Our bed looks like this but with higher front panel.

So I pretty much keep to my side of the bed, actually so close to the edge that one wrong turn and I'll end up on the floor, leaving him with about 80% of the bed. Where he can roam free. But does he? Heck no. He's all up in my grill back. Trying to chase and hug me without pushing me off the bed. He's mastered it to an art. While I squirm and tell him how annoying he is. Aren't I the best wife ever? The bestest I tell you.

While he was painting our master ensuite over the Holidays, we slept in the guestroom to avoid the paint fumes. On a queen bed. Suddenly I felt trapped, and breathed on, I couldn't get away, there just wasn't room. It was not pleasant.
He on the other hand, loved it. Shocker.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an ice queen. I love hugs and kisses. Slow dancing in our kitchen or family room. Being entangled in his arms while we watch TV on the couch. I'm all for affection in my waking moments...just not when I want to sleep. I dunno, maybe I really am a robot. Or a cylon.
Am I alone in this?

p.s. Remember my first DIY, that bib necklace I made? Elaine won it a while back, and it made me so happy to see how amazing it looks on her! Take a peek here and if you haven't been to her blog yet, I promise you'll love it...and her ;)

  1. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.... Chris does that crap to me ALL the time! He backs his buttocks up too me because "he has to be touching me". I literally sleep on the edge of the bed. And on top of that I have a 100+ lb rotti at my feet!

ANNOYING! And when I finally have enough and need to stretch out, I sit up tell him he is ridiculous for hogging the whole bed.
    His response: Babe... I'm snuggling!

Ehh... NO, your being a bed hog now scooch!

So I totally feel your sympathy sister!

  2. DUDE! I'm JUST like you and K is JUST like S. If it were up to him we would lay entangled together all night but I need my space. I'm a touch-me-not when I'm sleeping. At first it hurt his feelings but I think he's accepted it now.

Problem is we only have a queen size bed. I would kill for a King. Lucky girl!

  3. Definitely not alone- I like my space too! Anything smaller than a queen= not enough room lol.

  4. Your bed sounds fabulous. That's hilarious about you and S. Usually it's the other way around (woman wants to snuggle, man wants his man space, hehe). I'm like you though, I have certain positions that are comfortable for me to sleep and snuggling ruins that. It makes me uncomfortable. And I can only sleep when I'm comfortable. :P

  5. haha i totally understand girl! I need my sleeping space. :)

wow. i wish i could wake up at 530 to workout!

  6. hahaha this is hilarious. we've been married for a few months now and got a new bed. T gets mad at me because I have like 10 pillows for each of us on there and 2 comforters. so what, I think its cute! but it bugs the shnikies out of him.

We like to cuddle for ummm... 5 minutes and then we turn our separate ways for the night. why? because he sleeps with a pillow over his head. pretty much makes any cuddling impossible. :)

  7. I'm with you. I like to cuddle and be close but when it comes to my sleep I need my space!! I'm sure your husband understands lol

  8. You are so not alone.
Dave is the same. Well, he was before he met me. I can snuggle for a few seconds before i push him away to sleep. he now does the same.

  9. exercising not only does wonders for insomnia and being too tired. Amazing how exercise is something with so many benefits and yet we DRAG ourselves into doing it.

  10. Apparently all men like to snuggie snuggie, I'm fine with it, as long it's not face to face (recycled air, urgh!)

    cylon.. hahaha... you geek!

    :P

  11. When I got married I thought it would be hard getting used to sleeping with someone else (I need my space!) but its been a pretty easy transition. Cuddle for a minute or two and then everyone to their own corners!!

  12. okay, so i am soo ridiculous about the concept of breathing in the husband's recycled air, that, when we are sleeping face to face-ish, i make sure we breathe in and out at the same time. that way, we both get nice and clean, unused air. you don't have to tell me that i'm crazy. i'm well aware.

i'm kind of bipolar about cuddling while sleeping. sometimes i like it, but most of the time i just want him to get off of me. it sounds terrible, but it's hard falling asleep with a 200 pound man at your back.

  13. LOL.
    ur not alone...
--well im not an expert at this; since i dont live with my bf... but at times when he has slept over... w/start off by cuddling..& hugging each other to sleep... but when we wake up in the morning... were totally at opposite EDGES of the bed... LOL--so yea.... i guess i know what ur talking about.... :)

  14. haha, i love that you know you went to bed at 12:44 exactly ;) too cute!
i wish we had a king bed. we sleep on our sides of the bed as well. i always end up on the edge becuase my fiance takes up most of our bed and our pup sleeps between us under the blanket. between those 2 i think they leave me about 10% of the bed. frustrating sometimes i tell ya ;)

  15. cylon! ahhahah! just kidding!

i LOVE the hugging and snuggling and spooning (I HATE THAT WORD) in bed when it is cold. and when bad breath is not involved. if it is hot and mouth breathing is going on, i tend to skootch away, and sometimes even move to the couch. i have issues!

  16. I am totally like you. When I go to sleep, I just want to have my own space and don´t be bothered. You have a big bed. Mine is smaller. Regarding the 2 hour sleep... I think maybe if you keep repeating it won´t work, I guess.

  17. hahaha! "I felt trapped, and breathed on" ;P trust me. When i get married, we're getting a king sized bed as well. I move around quite a bit when i'm asleep (esp when i dream) so i need my space. haha! ;P

  18. Hell Miss cyclon, lol. Well...I like to be snuggled, but sometimes I don't want to breath his same air either. It gets annoying and you are right. If we can't have space when we sleep it is hard to get good zzz's. It is quite sweet that you likes to cuddle with you, but space is well needed, I agree.

  20. Oh my... Truer words were never spoken. My hubby and I have a King and I am in exactly the same boat as you. I never tell him off in case there is a day that I change my mind ;) All in all I am a need my own space when sleeping in bed kind of girl. Glad there are others like you and me ;) Aren't men funny when it comes to sleeping in bed! LOL! Thanks for your kind comments on my blog xx

  21. E- I am so, so jealous of your beautiful bed. Mine is ugly. But comfortable. I have no headboard... pretty sure it got lost in one of my moves a few years ago and I just never got around to replacing it. And my comforter is OLD... I like to say its "vintage" because it sounds much more chic... but the truth is the thing is just plain old. Over a decade I'm sure.
But no... you and your man, I mean I like my space, tendencies are not alone on an island. I am the same way. And because I've slept alone for so long, I think it exaserbates it. Exaserbates? Did I spell that right? Looks completely wrong. Hmmm... I should've just said it makes it worse. But now I've gone and mispelled a big word and spent countless sentences typing about my concerns over said big word's potential incorrect spelling. Is this comment the most ridiculous thing you've ever read or what?
I'm going to continue... just for a bit. 2 hours of sleep? I would die. No, I'd live... but in a zombie like state. If I don't get a good, solid 8 hours I am worthless. A waste of space. Truly.
Is there a limit on comment length? Is blogger going to simply not publish some of this because it takes up too much space in cyber land. Hmmm...

  22. oh I am SOOO glad i am not alone in this! My beau is always all up on me in my sleep! I like get OFF... seriously. I need my space. I am a no touch person, always have been.

Oh and I am so happy your insomnia is cured!! It is crazy how much working out can help your stamina!

  23. i'm so schizophrenic when it comes to my sleep. some nights all i want to do is cuddle and snuggle my boyfriend alll night and other times i just want him as far away as possible so i can spread out everywhere!

i love my bed. i love my sleep. i average about 11 hours a night. eep.

  24. No, you are not alone! I'm like that too. I need my own darn space and no recycled air, thankyouverymuch! ;)

    P.S Your bed is gorgeous

  25. You the bestest ever! Who wants to breath recycled air and have your hubs all up in your space!?!? blech. I'm with u sista!

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is such a funny post. I need my room when I sleep too, but the breathing recycled air isn't what gets me - its the blanket sharing. I need to be caccooned in downy warmth which I cannot share. It's selfish but oh, such a good feeling.

  27. Girl you make me laugh, thank you! I am do not touch me when we're sleeping girl! I can't breathe! I have enough anxiety on my own lol.

    Love you miss you!!

  28. SO NOT ALONE! When B and I fall asleep at night we usually cuddle in the beginning, but when it's time to do some serious sleeping we both need our space. He doesn't like breathing in my hot air and neither do I! (well, his hot air, but you get the picture). PS - I wish that picture was my bed in real life...

  29. LOL. I am like you. I need my space when I sleep too. Selfish that way. : )

  30. i hate cuddling before going to bed. I can't be touched when I'm trying to fall asleep. Anthony says I'm very romantic that way. LOL. Hey do you have as many pillows like that on your bed? I used to but I find it a hassle taking them all off when I sleep cuz I like flat pillows, yet having so many pillows do look nice when you make your bed... I'm in a delimma LOL

    ReplyDelete
  31. I sleep on a queen bed. With three cats. Basically, I'm left with less room than the pillows. As much as I like my space, I think I can compromise. :)

  32. the bed looks very cozy to sleep with. i like the print shapes of the pillows very symmentrical.

  37. Hahahahaha, this is SO funny! I'm exactly the opposite. I kick too and take up all the space! LOL!

and Thanks so much for the shout-out!! I absolutely love that necklace and everytime I wear it I get compliments and they always ask me where I get it! I casually say I made it of course... LOL JK! I tell them it's from you. And they're so amazed at your skilllllz ;)

  41. I'm sure you're are the bestest wife ever!!!

  42. Oh you are soooo not alone, Ela! I feel the same way and luckily so does my bf. So what we do is cuddle for like those five minutes when we're drifting to sleep and then each push off in the opposite direction (I luckily have a king- he has a queen at his house. Guess where we spend more of our nights ;). And like you, I love cuddles and hugs and slow dances and am super touchy-feely during my waking hours. So, we are either uber-normal or cylons. Either ones okay by me ;)
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend, Ela!!!

  43. Now I totally understand how my hubz feels. Seven years of marriage and I'm still so boggled why he won't spoon me all the way to REM, until this! This explains it all. Poor guy... and poor you! Haha!

Happy New Year to you & S!

  44. oh no! sometimes i want my space too when sleeping! its totally understandable. but i think i want too much space bc im the one who takes up most of the room on the bed!

  45. its so funny that i read this tonight! in joshs room right now.. was his dads apartment, he inherited it, left *some* furniture.. long story... haha, but basically we were left with two full sized beds. yep, FULL size. i texted him today and said, "you need to talk to your parents about gettting rid of those beds so we can get a newer bigger one".. his response? no, we don't need a bigger one, just one full will be fine. HA! yea right, im right there with you girl, i think i have some sensory, touching issues because i get in the worst mood if i wake up to someone snuggling their cold nose in my neck, gives me shivers even thinking about it! if S ever talks to into that queen let me know and i'll take that king off your hands ;) now that i've taken up half your page iwth this comment i'll leave u alone. ha! xo:)
