For the past few months, our gym memberships have meant nothing but us paying $30/month to have a "fancy tag" on our keychains. I am over the moon {huh?} that's all changed in the last few days. So since our husbands have been going, my friend H and I thought we should go together as well. Last night she called to confirm if 5:30 would work for me.
"In the morning???" I asked.
I laughed hysterically {yes, outloud, on the phone} at the thought, only to have H tell me, she was indeed serious. HA! Then I laughed even harder. Well, all that laughing turned to anxiety {and sore abs} and I couldn't fall asleep. I finally dozed off at 3:00am...only to wake up 2 hours later. Here's what I wore...
I kid. Posting what I wore to the gym at 5:30 am won't be happening. I barely remembered to put a bra on. But it is what I wore on New Year's Eve over our quiet dinner at home. S said I was "very sparkly". Just what a woman wants to hear...um...thanks, I guess.
All I had to do was set the table and S took care of the rest.
Had a votive-lit dinner
S prepared some seared foie gras
Anthony Bourdain says "one cannot live on foie gras alone".
I tell you now, I may just die trying. Love it so.
In between courses, we slow danced in our living room. Oh yes, we did.
In between courses, we slow danced in our living room. Oh yes, we did.
Shrimp swimming in garlic butter. And some crab legs {ate too fast to capture}
And some other tasties I didn't get to take pics of. Yums.
Since we don't drink, we rang in the New Year like 5yr old's...with a glass of champagnenade. Which in case you didn't know, is carbonated grape juice that smells like wine. Classy.
Is it just me or did 2009 just fly by?
I mentioned before that Filipino tradition {or superstition} says you must wear something new on New Year's eve, this top was purchased almost 2 years ago, but I just ripped the tags off and wore it for the first time that night, so I guess that still counts.
Rhinestone Bow Necklace - R.J. Graziano, Silver Cuffs - Bittersweet,
Liquid Leggings - Winners, Sequin Top - Century 21 NYC
Hmmm...it's 1:30pm and I've eaten twice already, taken ALL the Christmas decor down and vacuumed the main floor - including the couch. Rotated all the couch seat and back cushions, swiffered the hardwood to make it extra shiny, and did a batch of laundry. I could get used to this 5:30am thing. Right now I'm thinking: Who needs sleep anyway? The verdict's still out cause right now, I also have a feeling I may just pass out before the sun goes down.
Hope y'all had an amazing New Year's and that 2010 has been off to a good start for you!
Tell me something...anything!
xo
Ela
Good luck with that gym thing! I'm sure you'll feel better for it, despite the 5am wakeups. And your outfit is lovely!

Aw, Happy New Year! Seems like you had a fine time. Working out at 5? Ugh. I wouldn't have... But getting healthier is good for anyone...
ReplyDeletehappy new year to you!
ReplyDeletea few months ago i was determined to get up early too--got up at 530, dressed, folded clothes, vacuumed, loaded dishwasher, got kids ready to go...it was awesome the amount of things i could get done.
but i was exhausted for the rest of the week and never did it again.
and you do look sparkly--definitely a compliment!
I wore a sparkly top on NYE as well even though we didn't leave the house. It's just something about that night that requires sparkles!
ReplyDeleteLove that you guys slowed dance. You both are too cute.
Happy New Year sweetie!
Here's to productive early mornings! (something I never manage to have...) Love the leggings from Winners and the top from Cent.21 !!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy new year!!!
ReplyDeletewow, that food looks great! lucky you, to be with someone who cooks so well :)
ReplyDeleteand i definitely admire you for getting up that early and working out! i can barely make myself work out at three in the afternoon, haha.
happy new year to you too!
I so need to hit that exercise routine. i swore i would not gain even a pound but alas good food just came at me from all direction. what is a gal to do? good luck with your exercise routine. keep us updated.... : ) xoxo
ReplyDelete5:30 am? I am beyond impressed- I tried to get up at 6 for the gym once... I promptly reset my alarm and went back to bed lol. Right now my gym card is a needle in a haystack amongst my other credit cards and gift cards... One of my new year's "resolutions" is to get active again!
ReplyDeleteHappy 2010 Ela!
Beautiful Ela, looks like your and your hubby had a fabulous New Years eve night!! :) So Sweet... and you look great. I'm getting back into the gym too.. :) I've been out for 3 weeks (because of my cold and sheer laziness, hee hee)... but this year I plan on getting fit again! Hope you're having a lovely Monday.

what a perfect way to ring in the new year!!!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA well if you just ripped the tag off I think that counts! I do that all the time too (buy something, and then don't wear it not even taking the tag off). I do like that bow necklace you wore in the first photo very much and I have to say that today I got up at 5:15 and hit the swimming pool too. cuz if I go in the afternoon I gotta pay $5.75 whereas in the morning it's only $2.50... soooo being a cheap asian that I am... LOL
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard getting up and going to the gym, I totally feel you there, which is why I canceled my membership and now go jogging instead and do Jillian Michael's workouts. Good luck though, you can do it! You look gorgeous with your bow necklace, so pretty! I took my decor down over the weekend, now I am sad yet happy because it is the New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! BTW what is wrong with that outfit for the gym ;). A man who can cook - he's a winner! Your pictures are beautiful :) I thoroughly enjoy your posts. Thank you Ela xx
ReplyDeletesounds like a lovely new years! i had no idea that wearing something new was a filipino tradition! my mother always said you were supposed to wear polkadots and eat round things though.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely new years eve! Oh 5.30AM is MADNESS haha I'm a gym bunnie but I'm definately not (ever) a morning person hahaha.. I have heard that's the best time to work out though. Good for you

ReplyDeleteYou are so cute, missy! I love you NYE outfit so much, it is so cute and sexy and perfect for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteYou and S sounded like you had a PERFECT NYE! I am so jealous of your food and fake champagne (it's my fav, esp the white grape kind!)
I wish you all the best, good fortune, heath, wealth and nothing but love in 2010. I also hope you body turns into a VS angel's with your gym membership

ReplyDeleteGlad you had a wonderful New Years! That's awesome that you got up at 530am to work out!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Ela! Everyday I wake up at 5:30 to go to work and it's hard. But this is the only way to gain some free time in the evening!
ReplyDeleteHappy new year, dear Ela!! You look beautiful in that sparkly top and necklace! The perfect outfit for the new year!! And the dinner looks wonderful, I had some foie gras too for new years:)
ReplyDeleteI'm not an early morning person at all, it takes all I've got to wake up at 7 plus to go to work:P

ReplyDeletei wish i could get up and do the gym thing before work but that would mean waking at 4:45 and i just don't think that is possible for me.

I'm melting on the slow dancing part... someone pick me up from the floor please?
ReplyDelete:P

Happy, happy New Year's, Ela!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a beautiful/sparkly/yummy New Year's! Nom, nom, nom,... garlic butter....
As for 5:30... um... incredible!! I know for a fact I can't do it. And I'm not just saying that. The two times I've worked out in the mornings (morning being around 7 or 8 at the earliest) I've come close to passing out. I think my body is trying to tell me something. Maybe that I'm just really out of shape ;) I'll give it another go, but not at 5:30. I leave that to the pros like you!
you look gorgeous! looked like a wonderful new yr! happy new yr to ya!
ReplyDeletelooks delicious!! love the blog.
ReplyDeleteYour tree (and of course, you next to it) is so pretty! I love the sequins you're wearing. And that is so nice that you have someone to go to the gym with :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's possible for you to look more gorgeous - I love everything about your New Year's Eve look, from the sequin top to the liquid leggings to your hair and necklace!
ReplyDeleteHappy, Happy New Year my love!! :)
Dude, can you kick my arse in gear? It's Jan. 5 and I still haven't started working out again. Ah ha ha. Love that necklace!
ReplyDeletewoohoo!! great job working out in the morning!! ;) you look so beautiful Ela! Happy New Year to you ... I dont drink either ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Ela, happy new year! I hope you had a good one :)
ReplyDeleteI love your necklace in the first photo. It sounds like you had a cozy NYE. :) Those are the best kind. I was snowed in with my parents this NYE. My mom and I drank pink champagne and watched movies. It was fun.
ReplyDeleteI actually like that fake champagne you and S drank. Yummy yummy! :)
you know where i want to be? snuggling next to you on the couch right now. ok? i miss you and love you and i am so happy you slow danced in your house. so happy.
ReplyDeleteA while ago I would have told you that 5:30 gym sessions would be my ultimate nightmare. But with my current jet lag, I actually find myself waking up at this time every day for the past 3 days. It's amazing how much you get done, but I also feel dead by the afternoon!
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic in those pics as does the meal. And how refreshing to hear that you and S. don't drink! We don't drink either, though we've also never tried champenade!
Love the bow necklace!

wow! the food looks so delicious. especially the shrimps very mouthwatering.
ReplyDeleteYou are very pretty. Campaign looks is great for the occasion. I like your Christmas tree.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Ela! Sorry so late!
ReplyDeleteLooks like S did a great job for NYE and you two had a stay-in night like N and I did!
Except yours was way more romantic and glam than ours was. We were in PJs, drank a little and watched Fringe all night. It was around 12:37 that we realized we'd missed the ball drop (we don't have TV reception/Cable or many clocks in our house). But all in all a good NYE.
Did NOT know you guys don't drink? what is the reason? Health? Spiritual Ideology? Can't stomach it? So interested to know!
Here's something for you:
I rejoined the gym this week so I can train for a marathon in December. Imagine going from 0 to 26 mile capable in 11 months... Hmm. Let's see how this pans out!
