Yes, I'm Talking to You

To the lady in the minivan who stopped to help yelled and honked like a mad woman when we had to pull our car over on ever busy Spadina. After it got rearended by a streetcar. I suppose you would've preferred us to stay in the middle of the road so you wouldn't have had to change lanes. What is the matter with you?
~
To the streetcar driver, you seemed very kind. And I don't want this accident to cost you your job. But please do not say we "suddenly hit the brakes" and decided to turn. We had our signal on the whole time. And came to a gentle stop as we generally do when we approach stoplights. Hopefully this was a first for you and the TTC will let this one slide.
~
To my Krummer ladies, thank you for keeping me calm. Heart you to the moon and back.
~
To S, my sweet S, I'm sorry I didn't believe you when you said "it's been a bad week" even before this accident happened. But thank you for looking forward to the good that comes after a string of bad events. I love you.

And love, thank you for sharing Life Lesson # 289 with me: When you shake a bottle, without its cap on, it will make a mess.
Yes darling, that is what tends to happen. I'm sorry you got it in on your bag, sweater, papers. And face. Sweetheart, you need to look at what you are doing. Sometimes.
~
To the people at UPS, how on earth did you scrap the first line of the receiving address? Now you are left wandering the streets of Florida. Please note, all lines of the address are equally important. And should not be ignored.
~
To the people who decided one must drink 3 glasses of water to have the perfect amount so you can conduct your ultrasound, clearly your bladder is the size of Alaska. Mine however, is not.
~
To K, thank you for letting me go "just a lil bit" when you saw my eyes watering. I've learned that when your bladder is beyond full, it's gotta come out somehow.
~
To my dear Ela, yes you. When will you learn that: A full bladder + A belted outfit = A bad. Freaking. Idea.
I don't care that you got dressed and left the house before 6am. You need to think things through. More.
~
To my lovely readers, my bloggie friends, I'm sorry I haven't been around your digs lately. This week has been a tough one for me to manage. I have a sweet pea I'm worried about, a family friend in the hospital, a BFF who won't return my calls (is she OK? No idea), eventful days that will not allow me much computer time, and my body has finally caved and is trying majorly to catch up on some sleep. I'll be around soon. I promise.

Bulls...eye

I can't pinpoint exactly what it is that I love about Target. Maybe cause I can spend an hour there and feel like only 20 minutes have passed. Maybe it's because I can take my time picking out mascara, lotion and gummy bears while S roams the aisles for who knows what. Maybe it's because I only step foot in one every 6-9 months ~ whenever we're Stateside. Whatever it is, I love it.

Imagine my excitement when I read that Target had plans of opening a few stores in Canada!

Then I read the rest of the article

And found out it'll take a good three years. At least.

WTHeck???
Are you kidding me?

On average, it takes three years for a man to propose. In three years I could have 4 babies. In a row. If I had them back to back {anyone else think this would be a good idea?}. More if I gave birth to multiples. One with another on the way if I were an elephant. It only takes three days to travel to the moon. Need I remind you that Canada is attached to, not orbitting the US?

Seriously, Target, three years???
[via here]

Canada's always getting the bum rap.
Fine, our bacon's not as good. I mean, peameal bacon...who wants bacon with barely any fat? It's like eating baked fries. Which is only satisfying if you love oxymorons. Or baked fries. But Canada has really good maple syrup. And a better view of the Niagara Falls. Trust. Sure it's cold, but so is Alaska. And they have 3 Target stores. I looked it up.

Whatever. I'll see you in three years, Target.
With my 4 babies.
xo Ela
p.s. Just so we're clear, I've no intentions of being with child for 3 straight years.
You did know I was kidding, right?

Happy VDay long weekend loves!
If you're Canadian, happy "Family Day" weekend!
Yeah...it's basically something the Canadian government made up to match US Presidents Day holiday Monday.

A Chain Reaction

...that's how I can best describe getting dressed.

Other than on my wedding day and back in school when I had to wear a uniform (it's a Canadian thing) I've always woken up with the thought, "I'm hungry" "I dont know what to wear."

On this day I remembered the skirt I bought last year or early this year(?) that I still hadn't worn outside of H&M's fitting room. Which led me to remember the chain link sweater I also never wear. Then I remembered something else I haven't worn in ages - the Tiffany bracelet my cousin bought me after we had an epic fight many years ago, which involved many tears. I got a chill just thinking about it. Which reminded me that it's now cold outside, so I wore tights. Not wanting to look *too dark* I wore my nude pumps, wanting to tie it all together, I put on the nude belt....
Chain Reaction
That's my process for picking out an outfit. One thing leads to another...I know it's all over the place - my thoughts usually are. I'm just glad I managed to stay focused enough to walk out fully clothed.

Cardi - Banana Republic, Skirt - H&M, Belt - Anne Klein, Pumps - Marc Jacobs

While we were out, S took a look. He smiled and said, "What a big belt for such a little person..." "All the better to beat you with", I said. Yeah...I didn't think that deserved a response either. "Thanks" just sounded silly. So, I just stuck out my tongue at him. Much better, no?

How do you pick out your outfit? Do you start bottom up - shoes first? Top first? Colour? With whatever's clean? I ask but I'm not sure advice will help, this haphazard dressing is innate I think.

I'm sorry this post doesn't have much substance or if I've been slow in getting to your blogs...please forgive me, I've got wedding head. My aunt's wedding is taking place next week and my mom and I have been given some assignments. I want to make sure that all gets done. But in the back of my mind I can't help but wonder when I'll get to give myself a decent mani/pedi for the wedding. No more time to schedule a haircut. Now trying to figure a way to put it up without having a stinking plastic "claw" in my head...I'm also trying to figure out all that needs to get done over here while I'm away. Never mind about the birthday cards/packages that should be at the post office but are instead taunting me in my hallway, or the phone calls and emails I haven't gotten back to, the house that needs to be cleaned, clothes waiting to be pressed - mocking me as I type and company coming over Friday night - when I've got nothing, zippo, zilch, edible in the fridge. Sigh. There's more but I won't bore you with the rest.

Happy weekend, loves!
If you're Canadian, or if you just like turkey, Happy Thanksgiving weekend!
xx Ela
P.S. A lot of my friends, you know who you are, have been sick or down, or both, this week so I hope you enjoy an especially lovely weekend. You need it and deserve it! I may not say it, or send the emails I've been meaning to but you're on my mind. I'm sending you happy thoughts and feel better soon hugs :)

P.P.S. My lovely KS is having a super week and she's sharing the joy by having a Halloween Giveaway to end it off, head over now! Also, my fellow Canuck(I hate that word), the cutie at Pop Champagne is giving away some of her sweet GSP creations, head over there now!

Weighty Matters

Wondering how my *superficial* outfit ties into my post title?
I promise I'll get to that in a minute.

So, on Monday I decided to spend the Civic Holiday shopping in the morning while S had some things to finish for work [yes, even on Holidays he insists on working]. As I was heading out one of the stores, I walked by two guys standing by the escalator. As I walked by, I heard one of them quietly say, "go eat something". LOL, somehow I don't think he was offering to take me to dinner.

Growing up I've dealt with judging stares, been rumoured to be anoxeric or bulimic or both. Having to wear a uniform for most of my school years, meant having to wear a skirt or kilt, which meant exposing my skinny legs. Thankfully in high school I had the option to wear pants - and so I did. I would've worn a monkey suit, anything so long as I could hide them.

Then one day it hit me, small as they may be, I've used them to dance, run track, jump in cheerleading and most of all walk. I realized that as much as the hurtful words stung, I had much to be grateful for. As I got older, I accepted that my body was destined to be as curvy as that of a 12yr old boy's. That my legs are *slightly* bigger than toothpicks but nevertheless, they are a part of me.
I learned to deal with the rumours and the gawking. I've embraced that I have a super fast metabolism, that as much as S weighs twice what I do, I can eat as much as him on any given day and when I'm really hungry can outeat him no problem.

But then I hear comments like "go eat something" and for a moment I want to revert to hiding all over again. I am far from perfect but am certainly not one to belittle someone because of their looks. No matter where someone fell on the scale, I would never tell them to "go eat" or on the flip side "stop eating". And if someone I knew had an eating disorder, rest assured I would certainly approach the subject with more sensitivity.

When S and I met up for lunch (all you can eat sushi - and trust me, I got my money's worth) to spend the rest of the day together, I couldn't help but mention to him what had happened. He was litterally in disbelief and could only muster "WHAT???"

As we drove home in the evening, he turned to me, stared at my frayed jeans and spotted some pale skin and simply said, "he should've just said 'go get a tan'". He made me laugh and certainly put things in perspective. No, not that I need a tan(though it wouldn't hurt, LOL) but that those words were just as insignificant.

To top it off, S threw in, "by the way...I love the sexy zippers on your shoes."

Gotta love him.

I'm looking forward to catching up with your blogs today :)

Flipping Flippers

I've got a love-hate relationship with ebay, or as I like to call it, the e-monster. I recently spotted a pair of fabulous vintage Gucci loafers, which I had to, and I mean HAD to have. I "watched" them (more like stalked...if you can stalk shoes), even scheduled the auction end date and time into my bberry and marked the "appointment" as "busy" to ensure I would be home and free of any obligatory meetings.

I tend to wait towards the last few minutes to place my bid to lessen my chances of being outbid by incredulous amounts. So I planned on waiting for the last minute to place my bid...perfect plan yet somehow I got distracted by who knows what.

By the time I remembered to refresh the page, there was only 1 second remaining - literally. Truly perplexed by the 1 second remaining, like a ninny I entered my bid anyway...what did I think would happen, you ask. I don't know...that somehow the e-monster would take my bid because it knew how much I HAD to have them. No such luck, the e-monster practically laughed in my face with a screen refresh saying "The bidding has ended for this item."

As my lovely friend T, who uses no profanities, exclaims when something truly horrific has come her way would say..."Flipping Flippers!!!" Yes, she really does say that, and it's not just cause she's got 2 kids.

The winning bid, by the way, a mere $9.00! Why I didn't just enter my $50 max bid minutes - instead of seconds - before, as I so brilliantly planned, is something I will forever regret (yes I hold grudges...even against myself).

Flipping Flippers to the nth degree, that's how unbelievably upset I was. Still am as this happened just a few hours ago. ***Sigh*** I somehow feel a little better now that I've let it all out but am secretly hoping (oh wait, I guess it's not so secret...though if no one's reading this..then) that the winning bidder doesn't pay and that the seller will relist...and the lovely loafers will be mine...mine, all mine...muahhhaha!!!
