I Need Sleep

No really, I do. I've no problem taking a nap on our couch on any given Sunday or catching some zzzzs in the middle of S telling me a very interesting story as we drive in the car or sleeping through at least a third of any movie that is longer than 105 minutes. But lately, when it comes to getting sleep at night...in a bed...forget it.

Dress - Winners, Floral Necklace and Belt - F21

Logo Tights - Chanel, Mary Janes - Via Spiga (via 90s)

I'd love some good old uninterrupted sleep, to not have to get up in the middle of the night because I suddenly remember we need to buy potatoes, or because my bladder thinks it's 6am when really it's only 2am, or because the big lug next to me decides to see how perfectly his elbow fits in my eye socket{I feel you Tiffany}.

And please don't say "at least you don't have a crying baby keeping you up." Cause then I'd have to slap you that would be music to my ears. Yes, I'd still want sleep but at least getting up in the middle of the night would be purposeful. This however, has no purpose. Other than to give me puffy sullen eyes and a cranky disposition.

Actually, I'm getting ahead of myself. Yes staying asleep is hard but falling asleep is the hardest part. What's keeping me up, you ask? Nothing. I'd love to blame it on S and his snoring but 97% of the time I can tune it out. 2% of the time it's actually somewhat soothing. Like listening to static. And 1% of the time, I want to stick a pillow over his face but instead I stick one over mine.

Truth is, mostly, I keep myself up. My mind just won't stop. Thinking. I'm not trying to memorize the first 3,000 digits of pi. Nor am I trying to solve world peace. I'm just stuck on thinking about things that really shouldn't be keeping me up at night. Like what my ex-boss' daughter's name is. Or why in the world people like egg salad. Or how S can think Richard Gere and Harrison Ford are the same people. WTHeck. Not even close, right? Which leads to me wonder how much Calista Flockhart weighs. Which makes me think, "for sure I weigh more". Which makes me wonder what my BMI is. Then for a split second I forget what BMI stands for. Then I make up what it stands for. Then make myself giggle. Quietly, to not wake the hubs. Which makes me look at him and get jealous of how well he's sleeping. And how loud peaceful he is. Which makes me want to poke him and ask "are you awake?" Then I wonder if there's anyone I can call who would be awake. Then I realize it's 2:46am and everyone else is sleeping. Then I start to freak out because I imagine how hard it'll be get me out of bed in just a few hours. Sigh.

Any tips? And no, I won't be taking any pills. Drug-free suggestions only please.

Weighty Matters

Wondering how my *superficial* outfit ties into my post title?
I promise I'll get to that in a minute.

So, on Monday I decided to spend the Civic Holiday shopping in the morning while S had some things to finish for work [yes, even on Holidays he insists on working]. As I was heading out one of the stores, I walked by two guys standing by the escalator. As I walked by, I heard one of them quietly say, "go eat something". LOL, somehow I don't think he was offering to take me to dinner.

Growing up I've dealt with judging stares, been rumoured to be anoxeric or bulimic or both. Having to wear a uniform for most of my school years, meant having to wear a skirt or kilt, which meant exposing my skinny legs. Thankfully in high school I had the option to wear pants - and so I did. I would've worn a monkey suit, anything so long as I could hide them.

Then one day it hit me, small as they may be, I've used them to dance, run track, jump in cheerleading and most of all walk. I realized that as much as the hurtful words stung, I had much to be grateful for. As I got older, I accepted that my body was destined to be as curvy as that of a 12yr old boy's. That my legs are *slightly* bigger than toothpicks but nevertheless, they are a part of me.
I learned to deal with the rumours and the gawking. I've embraced that I have a super fast metabolism, that as much as S weighs twice what I do, I can eat as much as him on any given day and when I'm really hungry can outeat him no problem.

But then I hear comments like "go eat something" and for a moment I want to revert to hiding all over again. I am far from perfect but am certainly not one to belittle someone because of their looks. No matter where someone fell on the scale, I would never tell them to "go eat" or on the flip side "stop eating". And if someone I knew had an eating disorder, rest assured I would certainly approach the subject with more sensitivity.

When S and I met up for lunch (all you can eat sushi - and trust me, I got my money's worth) to spend the rest of the day together, I couldn't help but mention to him what had happened. He was litterally in disbelief and could only muster "WHAT???"

As we drove home in the evening, he turned to me, stared at my frayed jeans and spotted some pale skin and simply said, "he should've just said 'go get a tan'". He made me laugh and certainly put things in perspective. No, not that I need a tan(though it wouldn't hurt, LOL) but that those words were just as insignificant.

To top it off, S threw in, "by the way...I love the sexy zippers on your shoes."

Gotta love him.

I'm looking forward to catching up with your blogs today :)

Went for Chinese....

[EDIT: ADDED CLOSE UP OF ACCESSORIES AS PER THE LOVELY MS. CONSTANTINE]

...the other night but failed to take pictures of the delicious food we glutted ourselves on. However, the meal did get S off his photog strike! Here are some shots he willingly took...I didn't exactly bribe him with food, but I'm sure it helped...

Favourite Grey Blazer - Thrifted (Boys Suit Jacket)
Basic T - H&M

Silver Clover Earrings - Heidi Klum via Hautelook.com
Glasses (so I can see) - Chanel
Jeans - SevenFAM
Metallic Peeptoes - Prada
Navy Handbag (again) - Katherine Kwei I love the art of Chinese Knotting she infuses in her designs

I know I said I've
been wearing more masculine pieces since the cut but as you can see, it's starting to wear off as I throw more splashes of girly in there...though to my disdain, my brother wears skinnies...

One thing I have to mention is that S is pretty bossy behind the lens...telling me to follow his finger with my eyes (as though I'm getting an eye exam), then to turn my head not just my eyes...

...blah, blah, blah...but we love it :)
In the end my cheeks are always sore from laughing...

...and he always feels smug. It's a win-win!

When we got home from dinner, he decided some indoor shots were necessary
...

Apparently he thought a shot casting a HUGE shadow would be um... flattering???
I posted it because it reminds me of the Alfred Hitchcock Silhouette...and what girl doesn't want one of her own?

I know I missed the food photos but I did manage to take S' fortune home and take a shot of it...

Poor thing...
I'm more of a "told you so" type wife...
...only when he deserves it, LOL.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!
xx
