Follow the Bouncing Ball

[EDIT BELOW IN GREEN]
If you sing karaoke or babysit or have children who watch sing-along movies you're familiar with the bouncing ball. I've decided to make this a part of my life with S....sans the bouncing ball, cause I don't know how to get one to magically appear and bounce as I sing. If I did, that'd be cool.

Nonetheless, I've decided that whenever I want S to do something he doesn't want to do or has trouble with, I'll make it fun by turning it into a song. Because that's not annoying. No, not one bit. It's fun. For all. Unless you're S, then it's just fun for me.

My latest song was entitled "Eat Your Broccoli", I'll let you guess what it was about.
I'm also working on "Talk a Little Softer. Please", I've got some ideas, but I need it to be catchy. Pronto. I find myself asking "What? What? What?" whenever others talk or when I'm trying to watch TV(yes, I talk to the screen).
Just to clarify, since I have some new readers, S is not my son (though he can be a baby at times) but my husband :)

Anyway, since my blog claims to be a fashion blog...*on the side* of course, I thought I should post fashions from some of my favourite movie musicals. Or just movie musicals in general. Because let's be frank, some of these were painful and drove me up the wall....oh, actually just one did. I'll let you guess which one.

40s Glam - Evita

This dress is dreamy - Mamma Mia

Love this wedding gown - Sound of Music

The hair, the makeup, the gold dresses - Hairspray

These *styling* Munchkins put Oompa Loompas to shame - Wizard of Oz

Thursday I'll be checking out one last mall in Ohio, so I'll catch up with your blogs when I get back to the hotel!

  9. Hi Ela,

You've got to be one of the funniest bloggers around here!

I'd love to see a vid of you singing that broccoli song! I'd pay to view it so you could get a new pair of socks to replace those ones that suffered from the toilet incident below, which hopefully you already threw away, haha, Kidding!

Goodnight from a fellow germaphobe! =)

  13. Ok, first of all... you CAN'T diss the Oompa Loompas! Especially not the ones in the Tim Burton remake... that version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the best ;-) Speaking of which, Sweeney Todd was a pretty good musical movie as well.

I never watched Evita... I just couldn't do it. Still not sure which one drove you crazy, but that would be my pick (though at least Mr. Banderas makes an appearance). Terrific idea to make S. do what you want though... is it working? It wouldn't work with my hubby, but that's because we both think singing/musicals are slightly cheesy (sorry!) and I think he'd just laugh at me. Haha. No, blackmail and extortion are so much more effective....

  14. Oompa loompas creep me the eff out, but we all saw what kind of mood I'm in so who knows tomorrow I might think they are just the cutest thing ever.

mamma mia is SO GOOD...and I am not a musical girl!

HA so cute that you had to clarify that S isn't you're son. Love it!!

Tonight was fun! Looking forward to Nov! :) Thanks, as usual for being one of the best bloggers ever...I daresay you might be one of the few who actually read posts EVEN WHEN THERE ARENT PICTURES hahaha. A new dentist is what I'm looking for tomorrow! I'll email you about the Gucci's...so much I wanted to tell you anyway :)

Have fun shop shop shoppin!! XOXO!!!!

  15. hahaha i am so going to do this with my boy!!! my main song is going to be "dirty clothes go in the laundry hamper not on the floor" and will have a very loud, punchy melody.

some of the disney princesses wear pretty amazing little get ups!

  16. Haha those oompa loompa's are cool!
ps. the blue skies picture on the right is so beautiful!

  17. Oh, hon, you always make me laugh! :) Can you share the lyrics of "Talk a little softer", please? I would love to thing this one. :)))
Oh, yes! I also thought that "The Hairspray" had a wonderful wardrobe and beautiful hair styles. Fabulously over the top!
    Have a wonderful day! xxx

  18. Oh, I love musicals! As a child I used to watch the wizard of Oz every week!

  19. This post made me laugh really hard. Thank you for that! Oh wow, now I wish I could make one of those bouncing balls magically appear for you. That would be beyond hilarious. Your poor hubby. ;) Hehe!!

By the way, your comment about Lily meant a lot to me. I told my mom your story about the cat. It comforted her to know that there are others who is going what she is going through. She just feels so guilty and so sad and has been crying nonstop since yesterday. Mixed with my own sadness, I feel just awful and try telling her constantly that it was NOT her fault. Poor mom. But yeah, thanks for your kind words and that story did help.

  20. Cute post- I love Mamma Mia! It's always on HBO lately and I watch each time. The musical is coming to Boston this fall and I am dying to see it again (saw a few years ago).

  21. Oh how I would love to be a little fly on your wall!! You and S sound so silly- imagining you singing "Eat Your Broccoli" to him made me laugh!! And I love your little disclaimer that he is not your son, but your husband!! Oh you crack me up!!

  22. the pictures are cute.. and this blog post is entertaining. :) love it a lot..
and not to mention amanda s. looks so pretty above in mamamia poster.

  23. hahaha, I just love hearing about you and your husband! LOL Now you're going to try singing songs, I can just imagine how much fun you'll have singing them to him. ^__^ HAHA
You should post up the songs as they come along so we can all see what the lyrics are =D

  24. i absolutely adore mamma mia! i think it's the happiest movie on earth. and greece is just spectacular!

  25. I just watched King and I last night. The dude was singing and dancing to it. The hubs was not thrilled. Ah ha. My sis and I grew up adoring musicals and I can pretty much name my favorite outfit from each one. Love this post!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I LOVED Hairspray! My friends make fun of it but I insist!
Beautiful images, and I have to admit that I had never noticed how beautiful the Mama mia dress was!

    ReplyDelete
  27. LOL, sing along with my niece and nephew drive me banana.... : ) i love the dress from mama mia.

  28. Lar and I were huge MGM and Rogers and Hammerstein musical fans. Wizard of Oz is definitely at the top of my list followed by The King and I.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wizard of Oz and Sound of Music...it doesn't get much better! I actually liked the original Hairspray far more than the new movie. Haha and turning everything into song certainly does make life more fun, although probably makes life for everyone else a tad annoying. But if I could ever burst into song on the street and have every person there sing along and dance spontaneously, I would be a happy man. Hope you're having a beautiful day :)

  30. its really funny but ihavent seen any of these movies lol not one ..... those oompas look funny

  31. hmm. what an interesting tactic! i cannot sing well AT ALL, and i generally leave notes all about the house of things the man needs to do. sometimes it works. sometimes not so much. but i figure a quiet note might be less irritating than my verbal nagging. then again, i employ that tactic too!

p.s. there is nothing wrong with eating a banana or a big stick, but my RETARDED boyfriend won't. he thinks it just looks g-a-y to engulf a banana or a big stick. sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  32. hahahah on the comment you left me!!

yes, sliced banana is ok. corn on the cob is ok, as it goes SIDEWAYS, not up and down. i am thinking pickles are probably a no-no for him, too. oh, it is all so silly. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I prefer doing an obnoxious little dance when I want something rather than singing. Usually it works b/c they want me to stop so bad they'll give me anything :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. YES!!! I LOVE IT!!! YEY FOR SINGING!!! i turn everything EVERYTHING into a song!!! i love it and i highly recommend it lady!! hahaha...

and love the mamamia wedding dress!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes i totally believe in spontaneous musical inventions. Have you ever seen this delightful video?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UE3CNu_rtY

it is proof that spontaneous song and dance will save the world. Plus the music is from The Sound of Music! Wahooo!

Oh and on the subject of your impending memoir. Luckily, I am in PR (I have a master's in it... so I am a PR master. You can call me Master Clare, if you like) I am sure I can get you on the New York best sellers list :) hahaha... I crack myself up... Master Clare.

Okay, I am gonna stop laughing at my own corny jokes now.

  39. ohhh the wizard of oz!!! I love that movie!

hmmm this could be a good tactic....although I think if I tried it on my husband he might just look at me a bit weird....especially if I tried to sing...I'm thinking I'll spare all of us my singing voice :)

LOL! I am glad you made the note about S not being your son....hehe...I could see how that, especially in this post, could be mistaken :) hehe

    ReplyDelete
  40. A bouncing ball as you sing...hehe that would be funny to watch :)- But who needs that when you've got a Broccoli of a song. Do share!!!
    P.S. Sorry for being M.I.A. I luv ya ♥

  41. i love sound of music. I grew up watching that. I know all the songs. hihihihi. Crazy. Well my mom is very musical.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hahaha! Ela, your posts always put me in the best moods! I need to try that song thing with my bf, though I'm afraid my voice isn't nearly as good as yours- and it wouldn't be cute, it would be painful.
Cath and I grew up watching musicals (The Wizard of Oz being our all time fav)- but I haven't seen the new ones (Mama Mia, Hairspray, etc.)- I need to get on that stat!
Hope you have the most wonderful weekend!
