Just the other night S came home and wanted to talk about something. So I listened. For 40 minutes. Straight.
And while I was *listening*, I got to thinking how different the two of us really are. Here are just 3 ways how…
1. When S tells a story, any story, he uses the phrases:
“So what ended up happening…”
“Basically”
the combo: “Basically, what happened was…”
and to *engage* whomever he is speaking to, he asks, “right?” at the end of almost every sentence.
I die.
When I tell a story, I use the word “like” a LOT more than I should. Especially for my age.
2. When dealing with multiple tasks and deadlines, S needs to finish one thing before he can move onto the next.
I on the other hand, can multitask like [there I go again] nobody’s business.
I am a very good listener. I can listen, empathize and will speak only when there’s a pause, and if I feel you are actually done speaking and/or would like to hear what I have to say.
S on the other hand, likes to talk. And I mean, talk. He could have his own talk show. Sans any guests.
Case in point: About 2 weeks ago I got a call while I was out with a girlfriend. It was S in a panic.
S: “Hon?!? Where are you??? I thought you were home.”
Me: “No hon, I’m not…but I will be soon.”
S: “Oh. I came home and was talking to *you*...then about 10 minutes later I realized, you hadn’t said a word. I checked the whole house and realized…you weren’t home.”
Yes. It took him 10 minutes.
Despite the differences, and there are plenty more, it really does all work out :)
Hope you all lovely weekends! Happy Monday!!!

Hahah this is so funny, my BF and I are just like this, completely different, and so many things about me annoy him and vice versa, but for some reason it just works :) Well, most of the time anyways, lol!

that is too funny that he was talking to noone for 10 minutes and didn't know it!
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge multi-tasker too. I am always doing 3 things at once!
Awww so cute!!! He was talking to your for 10 minutes...I die. I say "like" all the time too! I don't think we are ever going to grow out of it! You guys seem like a perfect match!! LOVE IT! I hope you had a fun weekend hot stuff! XO
ReplyDeleteHA! yea i think most guys don't listen. dave could have his own show as well...he's his own biggest fan! LOL. nah nah. i am but you know what i mean. here's the thing though, i have a tendency to not listen as well...especially when i drink. i have the attention span of a mouse.
ReplyDeleteanywhoozle, my weekend was fabulous. hope yours was too! xoxo.
I completely agree with #2 as I am just learning that.. I surprised myself and finished more than usual.. What a feeling..
ReplyDelete:)
That's too funny!!! My hubs also likes to ask questions or throw something completely off subject into the convo just to make sure i'm paying attention to what he's saying. He's caught me NOT a few times :)-
ReplyDeleteI love how he was talking and you weren't even there. He truely respects your feedback. What a pair.
LOL! 10 minutes! LOL hilarious! :) you two are just sooo cute :)
ReplyDeleteHAHAH, this is just so funny, I loved reading this so much that I had to read it to Raymond & laughed out loud when I was done. LOL
ReplyDeleteI am just like you...way more of a listener then a talker!
ReplyDeleteHope your Monday treats you fabulously!
So sorry to bug you again with another comment, but I just wanted to let you know that I passed on a blog award to you! You can check it out here:

So fun! :-)
ReplyDeleteXoXo
This is a really cute post. My husband and I are both really different too but I think it makes it more interesting and you can really learn a lot from one another. I have been with men that I had a ton in common with but I think after awhile it just got sort of boring.
ReplyDeletethat is so cute:)i think it's nice havin different people around you, if they are too similar, you get bored...happy monday:)
ReplyDeleteBwah ha ha ha ha! We do the same thing!
ReplyDeleteHave a great Monday love!
i love how completely honest you are with what you have in life- its refreshing
ReplyDeletethis is so funny and true! we are so different from our husbands that it's a miracle how things work out. they just do!
ReplyDeleteCute post! You guys sound like a great couple :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny! I just came across your blog and I love this, it definitely made me smile :)
ReplyDeletehahaha that is too funny, esp. because you and S are TOTALLY like me and mike! i am the listener type while he is the nonstop talker, and i can actually multi-task while mike looses track of the whole world around him if he has to focus on more than one thing. hehe, the perks of knowing that opposites do attract, and personally i think it makes life more fun :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I so relate! Of coure it's no secret that women are the better multi-taskers, but somehow we are labeled with being chatterboxes as well. My hubby talks non-stop without interruption and sometimes goes on and on. It's usually best to just let him talk while I do something else (I confess, I do zone out a lot). And I use 'like' way too much as well ;-) Hope you had a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, that is hilarious and my man is a lot like that as well. He loves to talk and talk and I am a woman of few words, depending on what I am talking about. I thought I was reading a recap of my own relationship when I read this, thanks for the enlightenment that all relationships have their fun little quirks. Hope you had a great weekend friend! :)
ReplyDeleteAhahahaha! That's so funny... and something I would totally do...
ReplyDeleteIt's the best when you balance each other out!
ReplyDeleteha ha this has put a big grin on my face =))
ReplyDeletei love the way you tell a story too, so cute and very relate-able ;-). I use "like" a lot too. Happy Monday!!!
wait you just got to Ohio?! WHERE'S ELLY WELLY??!
ReplyDelete:)
Eat. I'm starved. PMS. grrrrr! TMI?
BF can talk to..... He goes the long way. LOL about S talking for 10 min by himself. : )
ReplyDeleteThat story is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteIt's cool how you 2 complement each other :)
xoxox,
CC
Hahaha. I think we can all relate to these differences - especially guys inability to multitask. I use to get mad thinking my boyfriend was ignoring me when he was on the computer and then I realized he really couldn't hold a convo AND work on the computer at the same time. I totally can't relate!
ReplyDeleteThat ten minute story is hilarious. At least he can entertain himself!
ReplyDeleteThat's the funniest story I've heard (err read) in days!!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and your outfits! =)
I found you thru Lynn, btw! =)
Oh my good golly my Mr. M is the exact same way. Lawd that boy could talk my ear off! I mean for real, I think he could. My ears would just shrivel up into little sad raisins from too much man-voice. Nevertheless, I do love him and his talking ways, but jeez. Sometime I regret it when I ask him about work. That always gets him going.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Ela!!! Hahahaha, that is tooooo funny!!! Does your husband know that you're posting this about him?!? ;);)
ReplyDeleteclothedmuch.blogspot.com
haha...it' LIKE adorable!
ReplyDeleteIt's LIKE every relationship has its funny little quirks! ...LIKE it's for LIKE real right?!
xo*
i totally understand this!
ReplyDeletethat's so hilarious, you always have the best stories! I am usually the one talking to my BF and I can tell I need to keep it short n' sweet when his eyes start to glaze over, LOL.
ReplyDeletePS - I would totally understand if you called me a bonehead, none of my friends have any problems with it! : )
That is so hilarious. My boyfriend has done the same thing, except reverse. He gets so wrapped up in his own world that he doesn't notice if I'm around, and hung out at home for fifteen minutes before realizing I was also there.
ReplyDeleteah we're the same. josh could talk anyones ear off if you gave him the chance. id rather sit and listen and give input only when needed. just the other night he mentioned that i barely said a word at dinner..what he didnt know was because homeboy was talking the entire time! ah crazy boys
ReplyDeleteTee hee hee... he talked to you for 10 minutes and you weren't even there. Oh my... how funny!!
ReplyDeleteAt least you know you can safely dash out of the house for a quick latte without him feeling a lack in the conversation. ;-)
