Later that night in the gymnasium {this was a HS dance remember} I was doing my thing on the dance floor {girl can dance. trust} and suddenly felt someone dancing right behind me. I looked over my shoulder to see a tall guy peering down at me, I shot him a look that said "um, do I know you?"
Which seemed to scare said guy off since I never saw him again that night.
About a year later, I met S.
About six months following that, we started dating.
Then almost a year after dating, S found himself looking through one of my photo albums and spotted a photo of me wearing a striped dress and rocking a shorter do. He dropped the album, stared me straight in the eye and asked, "OMGosh, Is that YOU?"
To which I replied, "Um yeah. You don't recognize your own girlfriend when you see her?"
S: "That dress...YOU are that girl! You're that girl!!!"
He looked like he had seen a ghost.
E: [insert blank stare]
I had no idea what he was talking about, I thought I looked kinda cute in that photo. Why was he looking at me all ape nuts, eyes buggin' out, frantically pointing, finger flailing in the air and referring to me in third person as "that" girl???
He finally stopped chanting "you're that girl" to tell me about the night he *met* that girl. A night when he tried to strike up a convo with said girl. By dancing with her. Only to get "dissed" and shot some "cut eye". Once the night came back to my memory, being the sensitive girl that I am, I
I laughed when I heard he had referred to me as the girl he was going to marry. Little did I know how right he'd be.
Sometimes, I
I was having goosebumps while reading your story... it's destiny Ela. You are really meant for each other. He married that girl that he wants to marry. I love this story. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI so love this story. I had a similar one with my husband, although not nearly as comical! When you know, it just comes to you I guess!

we were at the same highschool dance and were introduced by a mutal friend and we both took one look at each other and thought 'eww'. and then 3 years later duuuh dah!
no wait. my story SUCKS. yours is like from a sappy american romantic comedy. only IT IS REAL LIFE! i live for this type of stuff.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely story! My mum and dad have a similar tale only my mum didn't diss my dad :) tehehe. I think its so special when people decide they are going to marry a person on first sight and then it happens xxx

ReplyDeleteStay warm sunshine. Lover you.
That was the cutest story...just more proof you were meant to be!
ReplyDeleteSo K and I met on match.com, he claims that about a year before we met he was on match and he emailed me but I never responded and he was upset b/c I was the one girl he really wanted to hear back from. He got off match for about a year but when he signed up again he saw I was still on there and contacted me again and THIS time I did respond :) **I don't remember his first email but then again I use to get a bunch of emails everyday since I'm SUPA hot. hahaha
That's a cute story. I love it when people have great 'how we met' stories. They're so fun.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I always enjoy love stories that are slightly imperfect like you dissing your husband. Lol.
ReplyDeleteLove and want your coat!
I hate to say it, but very few happy stories bring tears to my eyes. I'm not that kind of person. But oddly, since it is such a fun and hilarious story, this really made my eyes misty today, Ela.
ReplyDeleteYou are one of the sweetest and beautiful (inside and out) people I know and it lifts my spirits to know you have such a GREAT guy by your side. After all the stories I have read in the past year, it is so obvious you two are meant for each other. You are two intelligent, amazing people who happen to be adorable little goofballs. Hehe.
Seriously. When you're older, definitely write a memoir. You're a talented writer, have an awesome sense of humor, and some terrific stories to boot!
I love you! xoxo
best story ever. thank you for sharing. i adore you and i know why S does.
ReplyDeleteand hi, i miss you.

ReplyDeleteCutest jacket grey jacket, perfect because -3 can suck it! Where the hay is spring!!?? S is one lucky boy...err Man! (he was a boy way back then!)
ReplyDeleteyou guys are too cute! great rejection preceeds great love, right?
ReplyDeleteSuch a great story! Your man sounds so cute and wonderful. I love it when high school romances work out, especially if they do so years later...my man accidentally touched my boob in PE (we were standing in line to serve the volleyball) when we were 14, but I have no memory of this. He says I shrieked and ran away, and that he was horribly embarrassed. But he also says this is when he fell in love with me. We got together at the end of college; he loved me ALL those years in between... That's devotion!

DESTINO!I´m a sucker for love stories such as this. ;) You and S are really meant for each other, Ela!

ReplyDeletei loooooove how you write. you are hilarious. and that jacket is bomb.
ReplyDeleteAwwww.... what a cute story! Love it! I met my husband two years before we started dating, but nothing as remotely funny as that. Don't you wonder what might have happened if you hadn't 'dissed' him that night? ;-) Then again, sometimes you need to meet at the right time in your life.
ReplyDeleteAnd -3 degrees??? That's definitely not right. To think I've been complaining about 10 degrees over here. I do love that coat on you though. Mackage has such gorgeous outerwear.
What a sweet story! It's amazing to hear how things like this work out- fate! I so believe :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE that coat!
Oh, I love stories like this! I'm so happy for the two of you. I love it when people are in love. Absolutely love it.
ReplyDeleteUmm me and my man met at a bar called "The Bait Shack".
ReplyDeleteTo say the least we are not the same people that met that night.
We have grown together. Love is a process and change is a definite.
I am glad to find someone willing to journey with me through life.
