Columbus

As some of you may recall, I accompanied S on a business trip to Ohio about a month ago.
I packed this wrap dress because it's so low maintenance.
Dress - Vero Moda
Clutch -Thrifted $4.99, black fabric with gold and pearl accents
Shoes - Prada worn here

Here a few things I most enjoyed and/or intrigued me about Columbus, Ohio:

1. My breakfast everday included pancakes, french toast, hashbrowns, bacon and custom omelettes made to order (I had bacon, mushroom and cheddar.) Yum.
2. People are so darn nice.
Case in Point: People will hold the door open for you if they see you heading towards the door. I don't mean when you're a few steps behind them, I mean a good 30 feet away. I found myself scurrying just so they wouldn't have to wait there too long. This happened everywhere I went. Every. Single. Time.
Case in Point: I was walking behind S. He stuck his hand behind him to try and reach for me. Instead he groped brushed against another woman's hips. He apologized, she just laughed it off. All he could say was, "I'm sooooo sorry." All she could say was, "oooh...I got excited for a minute."
Well, maybe they're too nice.
3. The servers at every single restaurant we went to were the absolute best. Bar None.
4. I discovered a thrift store that had items from J.Crew, White House|Black Market, Banana Republic, etc. with price tags still on. Score!
5. People drive with two hands. Wow.
6. People drive within the speed limit. Oh my.
7. Easton Town Center. Seriously, way cute. Great shopping. Great restos. And they have a little square where they set up a huge projection screen and play movies. I especially loved seeing little munchkins in their jammies lugging their blankies and pillows to the square getting geared up for the movie. I felt like I was in Stars Hollow.
8. Snagged these babies (now on sale here) for just $23.99 at Macy's.
On that note, I certainly wouldn't mind making a return trip.
Any city or town you unexpectedly loved?

  9. Excellent designer finds. :)
That first photo of you in the wrap dress is lovely. You are so gorgeous.
Columbus sounds great. I used to live near Cleveland about ten years ago and it was equally nice there. I think it's a midwestern thing. There are two cities I unexpectedly fell in love with: Milwaukee (where my bff lives) because of the amazing culture and awesome festivals and Minneapolis because of the fast-paced atmosphere of the city and how cool its downtown is. :)

  12. Ela you look gorgeous in that slate gray wrap-dress!
I have to say I've always been a little anti-Ohio (my ex is from there and I caught pneumonia there last summer at a wedding- ugh), but I've always heard great things about Columbus. I think the tourism bureau should pay you for this post- tehehehe ;)

Okay- as for places I love- seriously, Ela, you and your guy should hoof it down to Decatur (our adopted hometown just outside of the ATL), it also is like Stars Hallow (we literally have a festival for every month of the year) and we have GOOD FOOD! Two restaurants that are world famous and not too pricey. And we do have that southern charm thing that makes us nice, but not "too nice" ;)

  13. Well... Ohio is not too far from Wisconsin (where I live) and all of what you said seems to apply to us here too. I drive within the speed limit (while using both of my hands), and I've grown up being used to people holding doors, saying hello to strangers... the Midwest is pretty awesome like that. I lived in Columbia, Missouri for a bit while going to school (the first time around) and I just loved that little town too.

  30. I love that wrap dress. It's very alluring for your shape.

Wrote a post dedicated to you/in your honour/inspired by you. Check it out.

I spent about two weeks for business in Columbus, and I absolutely fell in love with the city. It's quaint, green, small, walkable.

I did notice that people there are courteous, but beware: their charm is deluding. I live in Detroit, and Ohioans HATE Michiganders. There is a huge contention/rivalry between OSU and Ann Arbor's U of M. Due to the astronomical enmity between these two campuses, my Michigan license plates apparently elicited serious road rage, aggressive and almost accident-causing tailgating, birdies, people daring me to run over them by walking in the street as I was driving down it (like they wanted me to run them over), making gestures with their cars they were going to crash into me, laying on their horn when I was unsure of traffic at a blind spotted intersection... the list goes on and on. Aside from that, I love how clean and tidy the city is. Apparently there are some green initiatives to keep it clean. All the historical architecture was awesome, too. I hear Filene's HQ as well as DSW is based out of Columbus, so shopping there is, of course, wonderful. But every town has great shopping. Even Detroit has it's "fancy shopping mall," and rich people shopping districts.

  38. It's almost midnight here and I'm laughing my arse off so loud, I could wake up my snoring hubz!

You really should put a disclaimer on this blog for its laughter-inducing posts that could lead to some serious gas problems!

On a serious note, the outfit is lovely and congrats on the great find! =)

  39. Great outfit - yay for Vero Moda! ;-) I can imagine smaller cities to have friendlier people. Those in bigger ones rarely have time and are constantly stressed. But with most American areas I'm never sure how superficial the friendliness is. I suppose the door thing is more about how people were educated (it's more etiquette than frienliness) and I know severs want their 20% tip so they always lay it on. But good service and respect does go a long way.

Thanks for your anniversary wishes by the way. We had a great time in a fabulous restaurant. My dad already had his surgery and is doing fine. I think the only thing that bugs him is that he can't really eat whatever he wants.. .and with him being a foodie (like me), it's quite a big deal to cancel out/reduce stuff like red meat or cheese.

  44. hahahah I love how S accidently groped another woman! One time when I was little my dad took me on a father daughter date. I went to the bathroom, came back to my table and began eating my food (though it wasn't what I ordered, it looked amazing). I look up to see a COMPLETE stranger across from (who has a haircut like my dads). Pretty much one of my most embarrassing moments.

p.s. sorry for commenting twice, but I just love your posts. They are so relatable, real and HILARIOUS
